Gear Ratio

     I have included technical drawings for this project along with some general CAD illustrations. This unconventional gear system has an abnormally high gear ratio for its size. This design was replicated from a YouTube creator that I admired. Using his general ideas and design I reversed engineered the product as my own. The final product was 3D printed in various materials including one that is flexible allowing for the abnormal reduction in rotation. This project was my first experience with the drastic effects of friction and demonstrated how lubricant is essential in moving parts.

     I began this project because of my fascination with gears. Prior to its development, I devoted numerous hours of research to develop my understanding of complex geometric gears. Research solidified my understanding and led me to develop CAD models that I could use throughout the rest of my career. To make this project, I had to develop my understanding of spur gears. I made 3 CAD files of adjustable gear files that allows me to easily change the gear pitch. The file also allows for 45 degree pressure gears, spiral gears and internal gears.
